Training

First Aid

All our First Aid qualifications are delivered via Qualsafe who are both Ofqual and Ofsted approved and are based on the HSE training standard for delivery of First Aid at Work courses for the purpose of the Health and Safety Regulations 1981. The aims of the qualifications are to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider. There are no formal entry requirements in order to benefit from the learning.

ctchealthcare offers the courses as a cheaper alternative to the leading national providers. Training can be delivered onsite for courses containing more than six participants or a day rate can be agreed price if onsite is required for less than six. All courses have an option to add extra training which includes AED and/or catastrophic bleed training.

QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (QCF) (2 units)

Qualification Overview

This qualification is designed for individuals who wish to act as a first aider in their workplace. Successful candidates will learn how to manage a range of injuries and illnesses that could occur at work and will be equipped with the essential skills needed to give emergency first aid.

Course details

The role and responsibility of a first aider, assessing an incident, managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, recovery position, heart attack, stroke, chocking, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, anaphylaxis, shock, head and spinal injuries, chest injuries, wounds and bleeding, fractures, sprains, strains and dislocations, minor injuries, burns and scalds, poisoning and eye injuries.


QA Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid At Work (QCF) (1 unit)

Qualification Overview

This qualification is designed for individuals who wish to act as a first aider in their workplace. Successful candidates will be equipped with the essential skills needed to give safe and effective first aid in emergency situations.

Course details

The role and responsibility of an emergency first aider, assessing an incident, managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, recovery position, chocking, seizures, shock, wounds and bleeding and minor injuries (cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds).


First Aid at Work Annual Refresher (QAR) (1 unit)

Qualification Overview

This qualification is specifically designed to allow qualified first aiders to update their first aid skills yearly, until requalification training is required. Successful candidates will leave with a renewed confidence, having had the opportunity to practice essential first aid procedures, as well as learn the latest techniques needed to deal with an emergency situation.

Course details

The course covers: Assessing an incident, managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, recovery position, wounds and bleeding, manging a casualty in shock and seizures.

APPI Pilates

APPI Pilates teacher training courses are available to Physiotherapists or those with a Physiotherapy degree equivalent. Using your existing knowledge and applying this to the practice of Pilates, these courses will enable you to instruct using scientifically researched movements developed specifically for rehabilitations settings. The APPI technique of Pilates instruction ensures that safe and scientifically researched movement patterns are learned.

Matwork Pilates Course

Qualification Overview

This course is available to physiotherapists with an interest in training to become a Pilates instructor. Using your existing knowledge and applying this to the practice of Pilates, this course will enable you to instruct using scientifically researched movements developed specifically for rehabilitations settings. The course consists of three levels of a consistent programme and an exam.

Course details

Theory and research on lumbar and pelvic stabilisation is presented. Clinical assessment of the transverse abdominis and multifidus muscles is taught. The beginner repertoire of rehabilitation Pilates movements is also presented within this course.

Jon Hobbs

Jon Hobbs

Jonathan Hobbs has an extensive clinical background that includes several specialities within the NHS, private sector, and professional sport. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an accredited AACP tutor and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AACP. He is also Vice President of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) and representative for the Association of Therapy Lecturers. He delivers acupuncture training to clinicians across the UK and overseas and has been published in a variety of professional journals as well mainstream publications. Formerly an MSc award leader at Staffordshire University he is currently an external assessor for Glyndwr University and sessional lecturer to several Universities including Keele University School of Medicine. He also acts as a consultant to physiotherapists within a variety of organisations including the English Institute of Sport and Premiership Football.


James Earles

James Earles

James Earls is a writer, lecturer and bodyworker specialising in Myofascial Release and Structural Integration. Increasing the understanding and practice of manual therapy has been a passion of James’ since he first started practicing bodywork over 20 years ago. Throughout his career James has travelled widely to learn from the best educators in his field, including Thomas Myers, developer of the Anatomy Trains concept. James and Tom founded Kinesis UK, which co-ordinates Anatomy Trains and Kinesis Myofascial Integration training throughout Europe, and together they authored ‘Fascial Release for Structural Balance,’ the definitive guide to the assessment and manipulation of fascial patterns.

James teaches a range of courses across the UK and Europe as the Director of Kinesis UK. He is a regular lecturer at conferences and workshops around the world. Renowned for his relaxed and humorous style, James is a popular presenter whose subject is applicable for a wide-ranging audience that includes osteopaths, physiotherapists, massage therapists and movement therapists, and is in demand from the Sports Medicine departments of Premiership Football and Premier League Rugby teams. James has collaborated with some of the top researchers in bodywork and fascial theory including Art Riggs and Robert Schleip, and is now involved in a number of projects involving research into fascia, movement and treatment modalities. He is also the founder and Director of Ultimate Massage Solutions, one of the UK’s most prestigious providers of professional literature and workshops in the bodywork field.


Fraser Philp

Fraser Philp

Fraser graduated from Keele University in 2009 with a 1st class BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy. Since graduating he has worked as a clinical physiotherapist within varied NHS, private and professional sporting disciplines and environments. Alongside his clinical practice he provides sessional lectures and is currently reading for a PhD in Physiotherapy (centred on validation of clinical screening tools and their use in injury prediction and prevention). Further research interests are around the study of human movement, integration of motion analysis into clinical practice and the use of assistive/wearable technology for informing assessment processes.


Stuart Elwell

Stuart Elwell

Since graduating from Coventry University, Stuart has developed a clinical focus on injury prevention and screening. In his previous role as a First Team Physiotherapist with West Bromwich Albion Football Club, Stuart was part of a leading sports medicine department, priding themselves on player availability and career longevity. Stuart pioneered a process of functional screening to the club to fully appraise a players physical status, identifying assets and risks neuro-musculoskeletally in full time athletes.
