Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is designed to be a deep massage treatment that corrects or resolves a body malfunction, e.g. it provides a remedy.

All ctchealthcare physiotherapists have years of experience in remedial massage and therefore each treatment is as deep as is appropriate for your condition. It can be appropriate for younger and older clients alike, not just those with a sporting injury.

The technique involves the use of quite a forceful and deep pressure, which aims to get right to the heart of the problem, releasing tension, spasm and relieving pain to restore normal tissue function. Over time you can expect regular treatments to improve your posture and flexibility as well as maintain optimum health.

Remedial massage is usually most effective for soft tissue problems, such as:

  • Repetitive strain conditions
  • Any strain or sprain
  • Muscular spasm
  • Aches
  • Pains, in particular back or neck pain
  • Muscular tension
  • Work or sports related injuries of muscles, tendons or ligaments

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a short-term talking treatment that has a highly practical approach to problem-solving. It aims to change patterns of thinking or behaviour that are behind people’s difficulties, and so change the way we feel.

The therapies focus on thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes that we hold (our cognitive processes) and how this relates to the way we behave, as a way of dealing with emotional problems.

CBT is now well established as the key method to overcoming depression, anxiety, traumas and many other emotional conditions.

Aromatherapy is an alternative medicine that is gaining in popularity. The essences or ‘essential oils’ extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of plants are utilised to enhance psychological and physical well-being.

Each individual oil has its own unique healing properties and fragrance; often several oils are used in combination to promote healing on different levels. In the main aromatherapy is used as a treatment for:

  • Pain relief
  • Mood enhancement
  • Increased cognitive function

The therapists at ctchealthcare use the oils in several different ways: massage, bathing and compressed inhalation; all of which are very pleasant and relaxing. Inhaled aroma from the essential oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Whereas absorbing the oils through the skin means they can travel through the bloodstream and promote whole body healing.

Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique is one of the most versatile and effective therapeutic treatments available. You will be surprised by how such a gentle treatment can be so effective, as it re-aligns and balances the body.

Involving a gentle, relaxing, rolling technique over muscles, tendons, soft tissues and pre-defined points of importance, Bowen is non-invasive and administered through light clothing. Often just three treatments at weekly intervals are sufficient to achieve lasting relief from even long-standing pain or joint problems.

It can be used for treating ailments and injuries, but is effective for most conditions and we find at ctchealthcare that people come along to simply enjoy the sense of maintaining balance and well-being that Bowen offers. Ideal for all age groups, even the frail, ill and elderly as no heavy pressure or pain is involved.

Remarkable benefits are achieved from Bowen Technique.

Hopi Ear Candles

Hopi Ear Candles are a very pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears that can be used by anyone of any age to treat a variety of conditions:

  • Issues with balance
  • Inner ear problems
  • Build up of wax
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Hearing difficulties
  • Sinus problems
  • Colds/flu
  • Sore throats
  • Stress
  • Headaches and migraines

An ancient, mild and natural therapy that is not a candle as such, but a hollow tube made from cotton flax, infused with extract of honey and herb oils. You remain fully clothed for the treatment, lying on your side with your head fully supported and auditory canal vertical. The candle is lit and the non-burning end is placed gently into your ear passage.

As the wax within your ear softens it is drawn up into the base of the candle and impurities are gently drawn to the surface too. The treatment generates a pleasant crackling sound and a warm, comfortable feeling while you endure a relaxing neck, scalp and ear massage.

Reflexology is a natural therapy and a method for activating the healing powers of your body. The premise is that there are energy zones throughout the body and reflex areas in the feet that correspond to all the major organs, glands and body parts.

Stimulation of these reflex areas ensures the whole body is treated and brings the body back to homeostasis or balance. Reflexology is the perfect treatment for helping you to achieve and maintain optimum health along with:

  • Improving energy levels
  • Easing tension
  • Relieving stress
  • Bringing relief to a wide range of conditions
  • Helping the body to heal itself
  • Reducing chronic pain
  • Calming the nervous system
  • Lowering blood pressure

If stress plays a role in your life, then reflexology will be particularly beneficial, but it is also just as effective as a means of pampering and complete relaxation.

Indian Head Massage

Originating from the ancient Indian medical system, Indian head massage is one of the most relaxing and stress relieving treatments available at ctchealthcare. A fantastic treatment for releasing the stress that accumulates in the tissues, muscles and joints of your head, face, neck and shoulders.

During the treatment you will be asked to remove your upper garments and be seated in a massage chair with a towel wrapped around your chest above bra level. Oil will be applied into the upper back, neck and shoulders. Our fully trained therapist will use a range of different massage techniques, including the application of deep kneading and compression movements over the neck, shoulders and scalp areas. After which they will gently stimulate and stroke pressure points on the face. This can also be done fully clothed and without oil if you would prefer.

An Indian head massage is perfect for:

  • Relieving stress or tension
  • Fatigue or insomnia
  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Sinusitis
  • Neck and shoulder tension
  • Improving skin and hair condition

You’ll find it deeply calming and relaxing, leaving ctchealthcare with feelings of being energised, revitalised and better able to concentrate.

Our physiotherapist will gently place their hands in a non-intrusive manner in a sequence of positions which cover the entire body. The focus of Reiki is on overall wellness and prevention of disease, reducing anxiety, muscle tension and blood pressure; so you can expect to leave ctchealthcare feeling peace and relaxation.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese acupuncture is a treatment that is currently practiced in modern day China, based on the belief that we all have an energy system flowing through our bodies, called ‘Qi’.

The premise is that when ‘Qi’ flows freely and smoothly, your body is in a state of harmony and balance, where health and well-being can flourish.

Blockages can occur that affect the flow of ‘Qi’, this is when disharmonies can result and your body shows symptoms of ill of health. It is when ‘Qi’ and your blood stagnates that pain occurs in the body.

Traditional Chinese acupuncture is the art of insertion of fine, disposable and sterile steel needles into very precise points in your body in order to access and regulate your energy (Qi) and functions of your internal organs.

Although it sounds painful, you can expect to feel a tingling sensation when the needles are inserted, many patients report a feeling of relief and well-being following treatments.

Traditional Chinese Massage

Utilising the theoretical framework of traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese massage combines deep tissue massage, joint mobilisation and manual pressure to stimulate acupuncture points.

Your treatment will include mainly deep, repetitive, rhythmical oil free pressure to release tight and fibrous muscle tissues and stagnation within your tissues. These techniques help to remove blockages, improve blood circulation and relieve muscle stiffness in various parts of the body. Specifically traditional Chinese massage can help treat:

  • Back, chest and limb pain
  • Flexibility of the spine
  • Gastrointestinal functions
  • Halt the progress of many degenerative muscular diseases

Comfort and support is of paramount importance during your traditional Chinese massage, so our physiotherapists use back cushions to support your body.

What sets traditional Chinese massage apart is its holistic approach to health care that not only provides relief from physical ailments, but also relaxes and revitalises the body and mind.

By applying weight through the foot whilst the patient makes normal movements; this combination creates warmth and makes the tissue more pliable and able to stretch, quickly and effectively helping structural problems.
